Up-to-date photo of SCP-4XXX.

Item #: SCP-4XXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Foundation satellites and surface monitoring outposts in the surrounding region will continually monitor SCP-4XXX. Changes in the anomaly's structure and signs of movement must be reported immediately.

Description: SCP-4XXX is a 0.6km wide cumulus cloud located in the Pacific Ocean (coordinates 48°52.6′S 123°23.6′W), 50km above the surface. The cloud is shaped like a human hand with its fingers splayed, possessing a high level of detail.

Since its discovery the cloud has not changed structure or moved from its position. Any object or upper atmosphere phenomena that interacts with the anomaly cannot force changes to occur, regardless of how it would affect normal clouds.

Below are other phenomena associated with SCP-4XXX:

  • Subjects that observe the anomaly for >5 minutes will lose awareness of the existence of other clouds, objects, and phenomena present in the sky. These effects end when observation stops.
  • No stellar bodies will be seen in the night sky within a 60km radius of the anomaly. Subjects often refer to any present clouds as stars.
  • Precipitation produced in the 60km radius often contains ice crystals forming structures similar to that of the anomaly, though with the index finger pointing. Water containing these crystals will form into cloud-like aerosols within an hour; this must not be ingested.
  • 30% 60% 85% of clouds that pass under SCP-4XXX gradually reform into the exact structure of the anomaly.
  • 9% of camera equipment operated under SCP-4XXX will record a live view of any clouds within a 2600km radius of the anomaly. After a minute these clouds invariably vanish. Any subject operating the equipment will deny the vanished clouds ever existed.
  • Several subjects believed that light from the sun and moon instead originate from SCP-4XXX. Information on the sky was corrected accordingly.
  • 0.1% of aerial objects under SCP-4XXX become clouds shaped like the anomaly. Persons aboard manned objects affected in this manner are to be considered part of the sky.

Of note is that the number of clouds present in a 2800km radius around the anomaly has been steadily decreasing since the anomaly's discovery. This is currently attributed to non-anomalous atmospheric phenomena.

While objects have entered SCP-4XXX, all witnesses report SCP-4XXX only ejecting additional sky.

SCP-4XXX is now shaped like a human hand pointing directly downwards. Outposts in a 2800km radius of the anomaly must enter lockdown immediately for an indefinite period of time, maintaining a complete lack of interaction with the outside world. Civilian populations within this radius are to remain uninformed of the current nature of the sky until complete containment has been enacted.

Information on atmospheric structures consisting of liquid droplets, frozen crystals, and other particulates must be destroyed. Personnel must not consume any liquids primarily comprised of H2O molecules that have originated from these structures; substitute fluids must be ingested instead. Expect no further messages until orders to end the lockdown are sent.

Entities claiming to be the sky must be neutralized on sight.

Item #: SCP-4644

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: The area in which SCP-4644 is located has been cordoned off by the Foundation as the site of a toxic waste spill. Radio broadcasts from SCP-4664-Y detected by the equipment within SCP-4644 will be recorded. As SCP-4644 appears to be wholly unaffected by SCP-4644-Y's gravitational properties, it is presumed to safely contain the anomaly.

Description: SCP-4644 is an underground bunker, identified as "Department of Abnormalities Facility 58" by a placard in its interior, which contains SCP-4644-Y, an amorphous cloud of neutron degenerate gas.1

SCP-4644 is primarily constructed of concrete with steel and rebar reinforcements. The bunker's main entrance is a metal shed on the surface, which opens to a spiral staircase leading 14m down into the structure's interior. A main chamber constitutes the majority of SCP-4644's interior, with two storage rooms on the left and right sides. Notably, these rooms solely contain disused pieces of radio telescopes.

At the rear section of SCP-4644 is a steel cylindrical chamber which holds SCP-4644-Y. Portholes with glass panes on the sides allow the chamber's interior to be viewed. A device superficially similar to prototype versions of the Foundation's Minkowski Spacetime Monitors is embedded in the floor, positioned next to radio detectors. Although the mass of SCP-4644-Y is not known, it is suspected that its density would cause strong gravitational forces that would destroy the surrounding facility. How this has not happened is unknown.

One dot matrix printer, initially discovered in a damaged state that prevented it from printing, connected to the outside of the chamber prints messages originating from SCP-4644-Y. The message are created when SCP-4644-Y produces pulses of radio waves, forming Morse Code signals. The anomaly was first observed by the Foundation to be pulsing at a rate of 30Hz, though this has since decreased to 13Hz. A single filing cabinet labeled with "1968" contains a number of printed messages.

Below are the first messages from the 1968 cabinet, created prior to the Foundation's discovery of the facility.
