Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to its size and immobile nature SCP-XXXX is contained on-site. Site XXXX-S has been erected at the entrance to the cave system harboring the anomaly for containment and research purposes. Due to the remote location civilian traffic is minimal, hikers passing near the area are to be turned away under the pretense of uranium mining.

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of two main components. SCP-XXXX-1 is a cylindrical structure of unknown origin and composition, completely enclosed in a substance that superficially resembles amber. Its entire size is unknown, as part of the structure is embedded in rocks of the cave system the anomaly is located in. Efforts to uncover the entirety of the structure are ongoing.

The currently visible part of SCP-XXXX-1 is about 230m in length and 50m in height. Visual inspections of the structure's exterior and the positions of instances of SCP-XXXX-2 located upon it led to the conclusion that it was originally standing upright in the form of a tower, with the part located closest to the cave's entrance making up the base of the tower. Based on this Foundation engineers have calculated the structure's maximum length to be up to 350m, assuming granite as a base material for the tower.

The tower's surface is largely made up from stairs, balconies, windows and and other elements which are thought to be purely decorative. This led to the conclusion that SCP-XXXX-1 primarily served habitation purposes. Based on its size and the size of the SCP-XXXX-2 instances it is estimated that the structure could hold up to 3000 inhabitants.

Cracks in the encasing substance suggest that the structure was encased while still in its original upright position and may have fallen over on its side, probably due to geological activity. It is currently unknown if the cave system formed around it or if the tower was somehow transported to this location.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are members of an unknown, quadrupedal species of insectoid origin and are assumed to be the former inhabitants of the structure. Carbon dating on a recovered specimen has yielded inconclusive results. For more details see Addendum XXXX-A.

Visible instances of SCP-XXXX-2 appear to have been engaged in various day-to-day activities when becoming encased. The lack of instances fleeing from or otherwise reacting to the substance suggests the encasing was performed instantaneous by unknown means.

SCP-XXXX is located in a cave system near █████████, Germany. It was first found by a team of hobby cave explorers and came to the Foundation's attention when local media reported on "giant conserved insects". Foundation agents investigated and containment was established shortly after the nature of the anomaly was confirmed. The media reports were publicly denounced as a hoax and the original explorers were administered amnestics.

On ██/██/20██ a large crack in the encasing substance was discovered during efforts to uncover the entirety of the tower. Due to the location of the crack being directly above one of the balconies a more thorough exploration was authorized. The interior proved to be largely unremarkable, with only a few rooms, presumed to be living quarters, being accessible. Careful examination of the inside walls uncovered electrical wires of an unknown material, still carrying a voltage of 320V, but no power source could be determined. No doors or other passageways leaving from the area were discovered, suggesting the rooms were only meant to be accessed from the outside. Requests to breach the walls forcibly with the use of explosives were denied due to concerns that doing so might endanger the structural integrity of the already damaged tower, possibly leading to a complete collapse.
