Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Main street of Holden, during Operation Flytrap.

Special Containment Procedures (Archived, pending revision):

Personnel are to terminate any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 that attempt to migrate from the location. Use of mosquito fogging devices have proven effective for this task, however, use of flamethrowers is authorized if necessary. No direct contact with the silk structure around SCP-XXXX should be made, in order to avoid an unnecessary aggressive response from instances.

The area surrounding the anomaly has been designated a no-fly zone; the town is closed to the public under the guise of quarantine. Any persons found to be trespassing within the 3km exclusion-zone around SCP-XXXX are to be detained and interrogated. Those found to have witnessed SCP-XXXX first-hand are to be made to sign non-disclosure agreements or terminated if non-compliant.

Survivors are to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Description (Archived, pending revision):

Early-stage infection - SCP-XXXX instances embedded within D-2937 during testing.

SCP-XXXX is the designation for a phenomenon affecting the town of Holden, South Dakota. The town has been fully encapsulated in a dome composed of spider-silk, the thickness of which measures approximately 3 m on average, and is formed from multiple layers. Debris such as cadavers, vehicles, and local fauna are intertwined within this structure. Matter such as telephone lines and water supply lines which would cross the boundary of the silk perimeter were discovered to have been severed at the point of contact.

SCP-XXXX-1 is the designation for multiple species of parasitoid spider with hundreds of observed phenotypes. Instances exhibit a high degree of intra-species cooperation and coordination, allowing for the performance of tasks unfeasible for single instances. The accelerated rate at which the silk structure around Holden is produced and maintained is attributed to this cooperative behavior. Innumerable instances of SCP-XXXX-1 can be observed to be travelling along the silk dome at all times; any damage sustained by the silk is rapidly repaired by these instances. SCP-XXXX-1 will attack and attempt to ensnare any organisms that make contact with the silk wall.

Late-stage infection - juvenile SCP-XXXX being agitated during the amputation of D-2937's leg.

The reproductive cycle of SCP-XXXX-1 involves a host organism. All specimens of SCP-XXXX-1 possess a paralytic venom which they use to incapacitate potential hosts. Following this, instances will deposit multiple egg clutches. Observations reveal that SCP-XXXX-1 will tunnel through the host's tissues using their mandibles. Internal organs and blood vessels are circumvented to avoid termination of the host. Furthermore, instances have been observed to provide nutrients and hydration to hosts, while juvenile specimens feed off its tissues. Research into the behaviors of SCP-XXXX-1 is currently ongoing.
