SCP-XXXX upon retrieval.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a holding cell at Site-77. The cell is to have soil, which SCP-XXXX will be planted in, like that of a typical garden. SCP-XXXX is not to be removed from this soil. SCP-XXXX is to be watered no more and no less than two (2) times per month, and no liquids other than water are to be introduced to SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a pumpkin carved to resemble a traditional Jack O’ Lantern. While SCP-XXXX is perceived as a perfectly normal pumpkin, its anomalous effects manifest once it has not been watered twice a month, or has not been planted in soil for more than ten (10) hours. It will begin a rapidly accelerated decomposition process, fully decomposing within five (5) minutes. The last three (3) people to have come into contact with SCP-XXXX will begin feeling nauseous. Reports of seeds being disgorged via emesis instead of normal stomach contents have been confirmed. After two (2) hours, the subjects will begin to lose consciousness. Approximately one (1) hour after they lose consciousness, the subjects will immediately expire, no matter their current condition. After the expiration of the subject, rapid decomposition, like that of SCP-XXXX, will occur. Once the decomposition process has completed, SCP-XXXX will revert to its normal state.

Addendum (Discovery): SCP-XXXX was discovered in ██████, Italy at a pumpkin field after the death and rapid decomposition of one (1) male child, one (1) male adult, and one (1) female adult on █/█/20█. Witnesses to the decomposition were given Class-A amnestics and the cover story of organ failure was presented to obituaries. Doctor ████████████ of ██████ Hospital was interviewed before amnestics were administered.

Interview Log:

Interviewed: Doctor ████████████

Interviewer: Researcher █████████

Foreword: An Interview was performed with Doctor ████████████ after The Foundation became involved with the situation. The interview was done entirely in the Italian language, but was transcribed to English.

<Begin Log>

Interviewer: So, how long did it take for the bodies to expire?

Interviewee: It took.. God, I don’t know, Three minutes?

Interviewer: What were the patients’ conditions before their deaths?

Interviewee: They kept complaining that they were cold. They were shivering like someone with hypothermia. Eventually, even though we had done what we usually do for someone with hypothermia, they just stopped shivering.

Interviewer: This is bad, correct?
Interviewee: Yeah, it’s terrible. The weird things is, their foreheads were burning up. Took their temperatures, they were around 110 degrees.

Interviewer: Interesting. Did you notice anything else?

Interviewee: No… No, that’s all.
Interviewed: That will be all.
<End Log>
The Doctor seemed to be traumatized. However, he quickly returned to normal after amnestics were administered.
