Esoteric Classes Compendium
Anomalous
Creator(s): thedeadlymoose
First Use: SCP-472
Definition: Item is so simplistic that it is not assigned an official database file.
Description: This would most likely be used for items that were in the Log of Anomalous Items at some point, or were redesignated there. The item itself is so insignificant that it doesn't warrant an official SCP file based on current knowledge of it. Typically, such objects have no harmful or disruptive effects outside of physical contact, and even then, those are most likely very minor.
Apollyon
Creator(s) and First Use: See footnote.1
Definition: Item is uncontainable and actively causing the end of the world.
Description: Apollyon is used for objects that are currently uncontained and will inevitably lift the Veil. Usually, XK-Class or other apocalyptic scenarios are this class's most common usage, but if an object will inevitably reveal the anomalous to the world, or cause a noticeable anomalous effect across the globe, then it is Apollyon. Keep in mind that just because something has revealed the anomalous to the world at large, that doesn't make it Apollyon. Only if it destined to generate a widespread, noticeable anomalous effect to humanity is it Apollyon. Many other anomalies, while they may lift the Veil, could have been prevented from doing so.
Archival
Creator(s): Calibri Bold does not match any existing user name
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is known to exist only through archived records, and has not been encountered nor detected by the Foundation.
Description: Refers to items that have never been encountered by the Foundation, and are primarily only acknowledged in historical documents. Items have never been detected by the Foundation, and, as such, they are no longer considered a threat to normalcy. Containment primarily involves misinformation regarding its nature or existence.
Archon
Creator(s): Ihp does not match any existing user name
First Use: I.H.Pickman's Proposal
Definition: Item is able to be contained but ought not to be.
Description: This object class is usually used when the Foundation deliberately leaves an object uncontained. Since this goes against the Foundation's mission of containment, there usually has to be a very good reason why they're not containing it. In the case of Archon objects, the item's containment typically results in such detrimental effects that it is safer or even less disruptive to leave it uncontained.
Atlant
Creator(s): Arbelict
First Use: SCP-1331-RU
Definition: Item ensures the existence of mankind and/or the surrounding reality, and should not be restrained.
Description: Atlant-class objects are most likely some greater universal constant which, while anomalous, keeps the general world or universe in order. Foundation resources are primarily spent on protecting the anomaly.
Avivit
Creator(s): Omega Fallon
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item could theoretically be contained, but is so harmless and/or non-disruptive that it does not need to be contained, or requires very minimal containment.
Description: The Avivit class refers to objects that are essentially super Safe-class. Objects that are allowed free roam of a facility or are left completely uncontained altogether fall into this class. The former is a much more likely scenario, as leaving an anomaly to roam freely outside the Veil is something that would only happen in a very specific scenario, while on the other hand, there are many examples of SCPs that are allowed to freely roam a facility.2
Cernnunos
Creator(s): djkaktus
First Use: SCP-4971
Definition: Item can be functionally contained, but the Foundation cannot achieve this for logistical and/or ethical reasons.
Description: This class represents the Foundation's inability to contain an object due to a lack of resources, or simply because doing so is deemed unethical. Such an object could be contained, but doing so is unrealistic.
Declassified
Creator(s): Ihp does not match any existing user name
First Use: SCP-3882
Definition: Item has been revealed to the public at large.
Description: The general populous know about the object, though not its anomalous properties, or their properties are disguised as some explainable phenomenon.
Decommissioned (Modern)
Creator(s): Calibri Bold does not match any existing user name
First Use: SCP-4456-D
Definition: Item has been intentionally destroyed or deanomalized by the Foundation.
Description: With the Foundation's mission being to contain anomalies, it tries its hardest to find ways to keep them from lifting the Veil without their destruction. However, there are very rare times when an anomaly has to be destroyed or deanomalized by the Foundation, simply due to the complications involved in continuous containment; in such a case, the item is Decommissioned. The Decommissioned class is only used when the Foundation officially and intentionally destroys or deanomalizes an object.
Hiemal
Creator(s): AbsentmindedNihilist
First Use: SCP-3240
Definition: Item is used to keep other Hiemal-class items in check.
Description: The object itself is left uncontained due to the fact that it suppresses other anomalies when left uncontained. If the object is contained or neutralized, a separate anomaly emerges. Hiemal-class objects often interact with other Hiemal-class objects in this way, meaning that most of them are left alone to contain one another.
Ignosi
Creator(s): Nagiros
First Use: Automated Passive Amnestization System Ver. 17.09
Definition: Item's discovery, even by the Foundation, must be prevented.
Description: The item can cause detrimental effects when known about, and can only be contained properly when it is not known about. This class is used when the Foundation is containing an object, but even they don't know they're containing it, and the containment becomes indirect. It is reserved for high-risk anomalies.
Kušum
Creator(s): daveyoufool
First Use: SCP-3319
Definition: Item's containment has been abandoned indefinitely.
Description: Typically used in scenarios where the Foundation chooses not to contain an item because of how dangerous it would be to try and contain. Used in scenarios where the Veil is already lifted. Primary goal revolves around evading, escaping, or destroying the anomaly.
Maksur
Creator(s): djkaktus and TwistedGears
First Use: TwistedGears-Kaktus Proposal
Definition: Item has been separated into multiple anomalous components, which are contained individually.
Description: The anomaly must be split into separate components in order to be contained. While there are multiple anomalies divided into separate components for containment, the general rule of thumb for this class is that each component is capable of warranting an SCP file.
Nephi
Creator(s): Calibri Bold does not match any existing user name
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is contained as a result of the containment of other objects.
Description: Whenever certain other anomalies are contained, Nephi-class anomalies are also contained. Typically, these would be byproducts of, or substances/components found in multiple anomalous objects.
Tiamat
Creator(s): CadaverCommander
First Use: SCP-3895
Definition: Item poses an immediate threat to humanity, but can be "contained" via open warfare or other Veil-breaking operations.
Description: Object is left uncontained for the time being, and can only be contained properly by lifting the Veil. Foundation may be willing to contain the object if it presents substantial risk.
Ticonderoga
Creator(s): djkaktus
First Use: SCP-4444
Definition: Item cannot be contained but does not need to be contained.
Description: Ticonderoga represents a sort of agreement with an anomaly. The object cannot be contained by the Foundation, but even though it is uncontainable, it does not lift the Veil, so it can be safely left uncontained.
Truculent
Creator(s): Schifter3
First Use: SCP-4703
Definition: Item is dangerous and unpredictable.
Description: The "dangerous" part of the definition is usually kept for the sake of the original definition, but is not required since it has nothing to do with actual containment. However, the Truculent class usually refers to anomalies where a standard containment class (e.g. Euclid) would change at random and unpredictable points in time. Best used with the splitter ACS, which demonstrates its "maximum" containment class along with the Truculent class.
Yesod
Creator(s): spikebrennan
First Use: spikebrennan's proposal
Definition: Item has been integrated into the Foundation's command structure.
Description: The object is used in the day-to-day operations of the Foundation. For the Yesod class, this is usually to the point that the neutralization of the anomaly would require its replacement immediately for the function of particular operations, to the point that the Foundation itself may be crippled.
Disruption Classes
Gevurah
Creator(s): SpookyPizza
First Use: SCP-3666 (Theoretical as a Disruption class)
Definition: Item endangers the inner structure of the Foundation and limits the ability of the Foundation to carry out its secondary objectives.
Description: Object is specifically disruptive to the structure of the Foundation. Usually, it will not have a substantial effect outside of the Foundation, or its primary method of disruption is directed towards the Foundation.
Ohr
Creator(s): Jack Ike
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is capable of significantly altering consensus normalcy in a manner potentially unnoticeable both within and outside the Veil.
Description: Object specifically disrupts consensus reality as a concept, and, as a result, its impact may go unnoticed. However, it may cause other objects to become anomalous or non-anomalous conceptually.
Solito
Creator(s): Omega Fallon
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item's effects are widespread and difficult to manage, but do not disrupt the norm and are not seen as anomalous by the public.
Description: Solito-class items are often similar to Amida-class in terms of reach, or "distance from the flame", so speak. However, Solito class items are unique in that they are either completely imperceptible by the public, or are seen as completely usual. As such, so long as the item is harmless, the Foundation may decide to leave it uncontained, making Avivit and Solito often go hand in hand.
Risk Classes
Anatta
Creator(s): Schifter4
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is capable of causing a YK-End-of-the-Universe Scenario, or altering the universe in a detrimental manner.
Description: The object has the ability to destroy or seriously negatively affect the entire universe. This need not apply to the primary Foundation universe; if it has the effect on any universe, it may be considered Anatta-class.
Hera
Creator(s): Doctor Cimmerian
First Use: SCP-4113
Definition: Item is hostile but very useful to the Foundation.
Description: The object is dangerous, but is useful enough to the Foundation that they may be willing to utilize it in spite of its inherent risks. Basically the Risk Class equivalent to Thaumiel.
Simpatico
Creator(s): Schifter5
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is unpredictable but not dangerous.
Yggdrasil
Creator(s): Schifter6
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: Item is capable of causing a ZK-End-of-Reality Scenario, or altering reality in a detrimental manner.
Description: The object has the ability to destroy or have a seriously harmful effect on all universes and reality as a whole. Essentially the highest risk an object could possibly have, as it's something that can destroy or severely damage the multiverse.
Minor Classes7
Eparch
Creator(s): higans
First Use: SCP-4015
Definition: Item is non-anomalous but related to the anomalous.
Description: Eparch-class objects are usually locations, serving as the site of anomalous activities, entities, phenomenon, etc. Usually, a location with anomalous objects inside wouldn't warrant classification, but certain circumstances may make this the case.
Gödel
Creator(s): EbenezerShark
First Use: SCP-4555
Definition: Item is explainable using anomalous science.
Description: Gödel-class objects work off of the basis that any sufficiently advanced technology is seen as magic. In other words, Gödel objects are not actually anomalous, but are rather very advanced technology that the Foundation, to some degree, understands. However, this technology would still be seen by people outside the Veil as anomalous, and as such the object still needs to be contained.
Khonsu
Creator(s): Calibri Bold does not match any existing user name
First Use: Theoretical
Definition: The item is expected to be neutralized in the near future by uncontrollable circumstances, making research a high priority.
Description: Khonsu-class objects serve to bring into question the "Secure" part of "Secure, Contain, Protect". Khonsu-class objects, while they may or may not be containable, will not last for long. This makes the Foundation's efforts focused on knowing as much about the object as they can before it becomes Neutralized.
