Secure, Contain, Protect

Item #: SCP-5070

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures

SCP-5070 is to be stored in Locker Sub-Alpha-09 in Site-11. Any requests for experimentation on SCP-5070 are to be forwarded to head researcher Dr. Frederick for approval.

Description

cube.jpg

SCP-5070 in its inert state.

SCP-5070 is an unbranded, sentient EDC Infinity Cube, consisting of eight cubes connected by 16 pivots which allows the formation of various shapes. SCP-5070 utilizes this to travel relatively short distances1, after which it will enter inertness and remain so until it is prompted2 to move or a human subject is nearby SCP-5070.

When a human subject is within ten meters of SCP-5070, SCP-5070 will move towards the subject. SCP-5070's movement and behavior will remain relatively unhindered regardless of the subject's nature of response to it. SCP-5070 will proceed to initiate physical contact, such as rubbing, rolling, and crawling on the subject. SCP-5070 will often produce rattling sounds by shaking its pivots.

From preliminary experiments involving interactions between SCP-5070 and multiple D-Class personnel, 89% of D-Class personnel reported an improvement in mood and temporary alleviation of several psychological ailments, such as social anxiety and depression.

Discovery

On 11/03/2012, a call from an apartment unit in New Jersey, United States, was made to emergency services, prompting a warranted search by local law enforcement and emergency service operators. According to the report, the unit's bedroom door was locked. Upon entering the apartment, law enforcement officials discovered the corpse of a human male, designated PoI-50703. SCP-5070 was found, inert, on the screen of a nearby cell phone. SCP-5070 reactivated and attempted to move towards the law enforcement officers. This abnormality was reported, and embedded Foundation agents alerted MTF Iota-10 ("Damn Feds"). SCP-5070 was confiscated and transferred to Site-11.

Addendum 5070-1

Data forensics on the cell phone revealed a log of outgoing calls, as well as several recent text message conversations. Foundation analysts noticed several references to "the cube" or "Cobbie", presumably referring to SCP-5070.

Recovered conversations make it clear that PoI-5070 was relying on SCP-5070 for psychological comfort. Relevant conversations can be found below.

According to the log of outgoing calls, on the day of SCP-5070's discovery, a call was made to emergency services at 3:02 am.
