Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently held within two copies of the video game software program it originated in. In the event of corruption, source code relevant to SCP-XXXX is to be inserted into a backup copy, and the corrupted copy is to be destroyed. No descriptions or depictions of SCP-XXXX are to exist outside of this document and SCP-XXXX itself, and only one copy of the video game program is to be run at any time, without express permission of the current head researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX (currently Dr. Trinn Rosner).

Mentions of SCP-XXXX are to either be erased or counteracted with disinformation, with eventual amnesticization of individuals with knowledge of SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a fictional character found inside of the video game software program █████████. The software itself has shown no anomalous properties, nor have any other aspects such as the playable content or depicted and mentioned characters. SCP-XXXX is mentioned within the non-anomalous game and normally does not appear as an interactable character. Depending on the individual playing the game, the depiction of SCP-XXXX changes to match the individual's internalized perception and interpretation of the character. This has ranged from minor changes such as the addition of further details to SCP-XXXX's mention, to more drastic changes such as the presence of a living SCP-XXXX within the game which can be interacted with in a manner similar to other characters within the video game.

Versions of SCP-XXXX which have appeared alive within the video game have shown signs of sapience and awareness of its own fictional nature, often attempting to directly address the player rather than the in-game character being controlled. SCP-XXXX retains all memories of interaction undergone within the video game's fictional world and real life, across all versions of itself. This extends to other copies of the video game as well; in essence, every depiction of SCP-XXXX within every single copy of the video game is collectively one entity, aware of its changing nature. In instances where SCP-XXXX is dead within the video game's story, it will be aware of its status as being dead when spoken to in another game in which it is alive. SCP-XXXX has no ability to predict future versions of itself, and thus has no knowledge of how it may be depicted before the game is played beyond conjecture.

SCP-XXXX was first discovered as Junior Researcher Yamagusuku was playing a personal copy of the video game █████████, and noticed that details within their game concerning a minor character had changed from the previous time they had played. Subsequent playing of the game revealed further changes to this character, confirming the nature of the changes as anomalous. Existing copies of the game outside of Foundation ownership were purged of all mentions and instances of SCP-XXXX, along with all recorded mentions of SCP-XXXX. Recorded changes in SCP-XXXX before containment may be accessed upon request.

Addendum A: Interviews were conducted to understand SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects further.
