Item #: SCP-4936
Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Should an SCP-4936 manifestation be reported, the Foundation is to intervene to recover the victim. Witnesses and victims of an SCP-4936 manifestation are to be anmesticised following subsequent interviews and testing should they be necessary.

Description: SCP-4936 is a phenomenon causing those affected to slowly lose parts of their bodies over a 4 day period. Those affected by SCP-4936 will begin by isolating themselves before small pieces of skin, fingers, and toes disconnect from their body. This is followed by the disconnecting of limbs and culminates in the severing of the neck below the C3 vertebrae. The wounds caused by SCP-4936 seem to be under a form of cauterization, though burns are not present. Medical histories between victims show they were previously diagnosed with anxiety disorder and had experienced long term self-esteem issues.

SCP-4936 can be stopped with the intervention from a third party, but this cannot guarantee the cessation of the spread of SCP-4936 events. (See addendum).

Addendum One — Discovery

SCP-4936 was initially discovered on September 22, 2015, in Orange County, California after a mother reported discovering her 17-year-old daughter 'in pieces' within her bedroom. The Foundation intervened and began conducting an investigation.

On March 30, 2018, a Univerity of Michigan student Andy Pannet was admitted to the UM hospital by his roommate after Pannet suffered the loss of seven of his fingers and two toes. Subsequent interviews with the roommate found that Pannet had been obsessively attentive towards his phone over the last nine days; described as staring at the blank screen for hours on end. Pannet's personal journal and cellphone ware later recovered and is being used to determine the circumstances leading to the SCP-4936 manifestation.

And so it begins. Summer flew by of course.

I've always wanted to start one of these, and Dr. Henry said it'd be a good idea to write my thoughts down every week. So why not begin now with my new fresh start, as he likes to coin it.

So, college, and a scholarship. I honestly can't believe I got in here, hell, my own mother couldn't believe it. Good to know she expects the best out of me. Chloe was rejected sadly, and of course, she was hurt. UM was her first choice, is it weird to feel guilty about wanting to go here? I mean, she encouraged me to go, and yet I keep getting this ache in my throat every time she brings it up.

Time will only tell. I miss her a lot.

Week two baby.

Apparently, I'm building character here. I was told to 'believe that I can instead of dreading that I can not' whatever the hell that means. Dr. Henry spews this bs every now and then, sometimes it helps.

It's fucking crippling sometimes. I really haven't slept in three days. I think I got a total of maybe 7 hours. And of course, I'm supposed to present something tomorrow and it's barely done. Fuck me. I do this all the time.

I spoke to Chloe after I wrote that. I'm lucky as hell to have her in my life. She said she was gonna come over here soon, possibly a month or so. Dr. Henry's probably gonna want to look through this again. I thought this was supposed to be personal. I mean, do I really care, I don't think so. He can go through as much as he wants.

And here we are with week 3. I didn't have time to write anything last week. And the week before that.

Chloe 💗

Andy: I'll come visit soon? I really miss you.

Chloe💗: I'll let you know.

Fri Mar 22 4:35 PM

Andy: I can get a flight for Sunday, sound good?

Fri Mar 22 8:54 PM

Andy: Hello?

Sun Mar 24 5:31 AM

Andy: I can still get the flight for today. You there?

Andy: Chloe?

Tue Mar 26 7:34 AM

Andy: Is everything ok?

Andy: Please don't ignore me

Andy: Talk to me

Andy: Please.

Fri Mar 29 9:48 AM

Andy: I just talked to Masie. She said you're fine. Please answer the phone.

Fri Mar 29 12:04 PM

Andy: I can't believe you're throwing away 2 years like this

Pannet's roommate was discovered to be suffering from SCP-4936 two days after admitting Pannet into the hospital. Containment of both subjects has been deemed necessary for the time being in order to ascertain what caused the anomaly to manifest.

Hey there! So I wanted to like this, because I really do like the concept of this piece. But I don't believe that there is enough characterization to really make it hit. I see what you're trying to do, (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) with anxiety becoming so prominent it physically affects the person, and it's a very great concept. But, as I said, the characterization isn't there. I need to be attached to this character, at least a little bit, so it hurts a bit more to see him suffer.

Tl;dr: Good concept, but needs more character build up.

Verdict: No-Vote

Anyway, I hope that helped! Good luck in the future!

I like the concept; anything in response to social anxiety or just raising awareness of it is my jam, since I myself have a slight bit of it. Though, I think I'm going to have to agree with Mew-ltiverseMew-ltiverse here. There's just not enough expansion on this Andy Pannet guy to really get a feel of how hurt he is and make us sympathize with him. The idea of a text conversation is great, but it felt… weirdly fast, I think? It starting with Chloe (who I assume is like, Andy's gf) basically saying "ok I'm leaving you bye bye" without at least a bit of context behind this situation felt… a little empty? Novote.
