I Will Not Be Forgotten, Remember That

The following file describes an entity that, for all intents and purposes, does not exist within this reality. Personnel are to note that the entity known as SCP-4761 can only affect information, but could be capable of manipulating the physical world, and thus must be cautious when interacting with information tampered by SCP-4761.

Item #: SCP-4761

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Deepwell Archive 17 has been constructed for the purposes of localizing references to SCP-4761 and for the protection of information regarding SCP-4761 upon the appearance of a CK class scenario. SCP-4761 is capable of a functioning at 100% efficiency even when severely damaged. More information regarding Deepwell Archive 17 can be found within Document 001.

All references to SCP-4761 outside of the Foundation are to be deleted, and witnesses administered amnestics. All references to SCP-4761 within the Foundation database are not to be deleted. Files containing references to SCP-4761 are to be moved to Deepwell Archive 17.

Description: SCP-4761 is a metaphysical entity that is capable of manipulating information within our reality. SCP-4761 is currently theorized to be unable to manipulate anything outside of information, but it is unknown if this is true. SCP-4761 goes by the name of "Westrin."

SCP-4761 has only been seen manipulating information to include the name of "Westrin" or something very similar into fictional and non-fictional writings. Currently, there are approximately 500 files within the Foundation database affected by SCP-4761. Approximately 400,000 books since 1907 have been affected by SCP-4761 to include references to "Westrin."

SCP-4761 has also been observed to affect:

  • The names of accounts on the internet.
  • Graffiti.
  • The names of companies.
  • The names for characters on fictuous websites.
  • Characters in video games.

However, despite SCP-4761 not being capable of interacting with reality, individuals/organizations will not question their changed name, and they will start going by their new name. Additionally, all information, whether physical or with memories, regarding the individual/organization seems to retroactively change, making research into the phenomenon difficult.

The following is a list of references to SCP-4761 within the Foundation database.

File Name Description
SCP-3494 Agent Westrin There has been no conversation between PoI #291 (dado) and a person named Agent Westrin, as originally Agent DeMure was the one to speak to dado. DeMure states that their last name is "Westrin," which is untrue.
SCP-4031 Dr. Westrin No person named Dr. Westrin has interacted with SCP-4031. However, no one claims to remember Dr. Westrin, possibly because of SCP-4031's effect.
SCP-3879 Albert Westrin Despite being a core member of Wilson's Wildlife Solutions, the group believes their name is Albert Westrin, and not Albert Hitchcock. Can also be found within GOI-Document-3461.
SCP-4988 Restwynn Security Installations It is to be noted that SCP-4988 is actually named "Raether Security Installations" and not Restwynn, which is phonetically extremely similar to Westrin
SCP-4511 Lead Researcher Westrin More information cannot be obtained due to SCP-4511's anomaly. Since the discovery of this Westrin, SCP-4511 has produced the demand of "A wanting ruler to rule over the nameless."
SCP-4447 Agent Richard Westrin All known documents describing Richard's PhD in engineering and experience in aeronautical organizations have been changed to be named "Richard Westrin" instead of Richard Duchamp.
SCP-4543 Dr. Westrin Dr. Westrin was originally Dr. Wilfred. No reports of a Dr. Westrin within files related to SCP-4543 exist.

Addendum-001: "Westrin & Mowry" are an American folk rockduo consisting of singer Brian Westrin and instrumentalist Peter Mowry1. It is currently believed that Brian Westrin is the only known individual not known by another name other than Westrin. This was regarded to be highly unlikely and anomalous due to Westrin being a surname that does not exist except for SCP-4761 related cases. The following interview was conducted on December 22nd, 2015 with Brian Westrin under the guise of a therapist session.

Addendum-002: The following are instances of Westrins located within various books discovered since SCP-4761's containment procedures were established.

██/██/████: "Jack and the Barber" by Roald Dahl. The name of the barber is later discovered to be Jerry Westrin.

██/██/████: "Goosebumps: Park Managers are Out For Blood!" by R.L. Stine. The antagonist of the book is named Daniel, but names themselves "the unforgotten Westrin" once they begin to kidnap children.

██/██/████: "And so the bell rings once again" by Stacey Hathaway. The main character of the book is West Rhythm. Currently unconfirmed instance of a Westrin.

██/██/████: "Coco: The Land of The Dead" by Lee Unkrich. Instead of Ernesto de la Cruz, the character is named "Westrin de la Cruz." This is changed to Ernesto in the film adaption.

██/██/████: "What Is My Name" by [DATA EXPUNGED]. [DATA EXPUNGED].

██/██/████: "The Walk Beneath The Moons" by Lithia Messer. First recorded instance of SCP-4761 affecting non-fictional characters outside of the Foundation database, in this case being Westrin Armstrong. However, Westrin continued to believe that their name was Neil Armstrong.
