Only Way Is Up

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Provisional Site-93 has been constructed around SCP-XXXX. Outside of testing, no personnel are permitted within thirty metres of the object.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an English Oak tree (Quercus robur). Where a non-anomalous tree would have a branch, SCP-XXXX instead has a smaller tree growing off of it, which is believed to be identical to itself in all features besides size. This fractal pattern is believed to repeat indefinitely; there is not thought to be an end to the branches of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is invulnerable to all forms of damage, and is not believed to change in size or shape.

Any individual who attempts to climb SCP-XXXX will appear to decrease in size as they move off of the ground. The climber will not notice this, and will not be subject to any of the expected effects of decreased size. Ascent of SCP-XXXX is invariably fatal. Due to the infinite length of the branches, it is impossible to complete a climb.

Exploration Team: D-47758, Dr. Vincent Stevenson (Site-93 contact)

Subject: SCP-XXXX

<BEGIN LOG>

Stevenson: Okay, fifty-eight, I'd like you to climb that tree.

D-47758: Which one? The one with the fucky leaves? They hurt my head just looking at them.

Stevenson: Yes, that's the one.

D-47758: Ugh, okay.

D-47758 begins to ascend SCP-XXXX. He continues to do so for five minutes, climbing up three iterations of SCP-XXXX before coming to a stop. He appears to have decreased in height to approximately twenty centimetres.

D-47758: Jesus, Doc. What the hell is happening? I've been going up for fucking ages, and nothing has happened.

Stevenson: Alright. That's all you need to do. Can you… uhh… (Dr. Stevenson pauses momentarily) Can you wait there?

D-47758: Better than keeping going.
