SCP-XXXX: The Worm-in-Waiting (Base)
Item#: XXXX

Secondary Class:
Disruption Class:
Risk Class:

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX cannot be effectively contained. Procedures currently being used to conceal SCP-XXXX's existence from the public are to continue as necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a black hole located at the former location of the star known as Betelgeuse. Although photographs, data, and records from numerous observations of Betelgeuse still exist in an intact state, all current observations of SCP-XXXX reflect data that indicates SCP-XXXX has existed as a black hole for at least 13 billion years.

Prior to SCP-XXXX's manifestation, the Betelgeuse system was confirmed to possess at least one life-bearing planet which played host to an advanced sapient space-faring civilization. While all planets continue to orbit SCP-XXXX as they did Betelgeuse, it is unknown whether this civilization survived the change, as all terrestrial bodies within the system are believed to have also undergone drastic changes.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX's existence was detected in mid-October 2019, as Betelgeuse was believed to be undergoing a sudden and unexpected dimming phase; however, upon further observation, the star had, in fact, disappeared, and had been replaced with SCP-XXXX. Following its detection, precautions were put in place to prevent the public from discovering SCP-XXXX.
